JULIAN Brazier’s bid to crackdown on violence in films and video games has failed.
The Canterbury Conservative MP has brought a private member’s bill in a bid to increased censorship by allowing more appeals against rulings on products by the British Board of Film Classification.
But despite support from a number of Tory and Labour MPs, the bill failed when the debate ran out of time.
It was far from a forgone conclusion, however, with both Government and Opposition front benches opposed to it. The Lib Dems had also not given it their support.
Mr Brazier had cited recent BBFC classifications for the likes of the controversial video game Manhunt and the film Eastern Promise as examples where what he considered unsuitable material had been passed.
