A WINCH was used to rescues a man suffering from a suspected back injury from an upstairs room last week.
The 30-year-old man had been put on a spinal board by paramedics designed to keep his back straight and immobile to prevent further injury.
But the ambulance crew attending the call at Little Barton Farm cottages, Canterbury, on Saturday morning were unable to safely manoeuvre the spinal board down the narrow spiral staircase in the cottage.
Fire fighters were called in and the crew removed part of the dormer window at the top of the house, and winched the man to the ground.
He was taken to hospital at about 2.30am.
