WAYNE Middleton, 33, crashed spectacularly on the Thanet Way after drinking eight pints of strong lager.
Middleton, of Claremont Street, Herne Bay smashed into a crash barrier and demolished a directional sign before his Nissan Primera landed on its roof.
The incident happened at the Herne Bay turn-off of the Thanet Way.
Amazingly he was unhurt but he didn't escape the wrath of Canterbury magistrates.
Ruth Dalziell, prosecuting, said passers-by helped him out of the wrecked car but he ran away.
He was soon picked up by police who found him hiding nearby. He was two-and-a-half times over the drink/drive limit.
Middleton was given a three-year driving ban and a 12-month supervision order including 200 hours unpaid work.
