Wispa campaigners win chocolate treat

Chocoholics who successfully campaigned for the return of an old favourite were invited to launch production of the bar.

Ollie Emery and Tony Halson, both from Whitstable, created a Facebook group calling for Cadbury to bring back Wispa Gold.

Their campaign proved so popular that the chocolate giant bowed to pressure and agreed to return the caramel-based snack to store shelves for a limited period from September 14.

Ollie and Tony were invited to Cadbury’s Bournville factory in Birmingham to help kick-start the production line, along with fellow Wispa-lover Cara Stripp.

Tony said: "I’ve been dreaming about the day when Wispa Gold would come back ever since we campaigned to get the original Wispa back in the shops.

"It’s fantastic to be part of it and to actually see it happening in person."

Launched in 1981, the original Wispa bar was discontinued in 2003 until groups on a number of social networking websites successfully campaigned for its return.
