Zoo8 ska band to headline charity gig

Battleska Galactica guitarist Stewart Cork in action
From ska to screamo, the eclectic line-up of this year’s Don8tion all dayer brings together seven of the best bands Kent has to offer.

The popular charity event, now in its fourth year, is held each summer at the Wyvern Hall in Sittingbourne, a 500 capacity venue with the space for bands and fans to really let rip.

This year the event – organised to raise money for Demelza House Children’s Hospice – is headlined by Folkestone’s superlative ska punk outfit, Battleska Galactica.

The eight-piece are fresh from a successful slot at the ill-fated Zoo8 festival, packing their tent when they performed on Friday, July 4.

They already have several critically acclaimed releases including 2005’s ‘Songs from the Crypt’, and a new album, ‘If found please return to…’ will be on sale later this year.

Preceding Battleska are Medway rockers Saturday Superhouse, who wowed the audience at last year’s Dona8ion with their highly polished, stage-filling songs.

Energetic Kent punk band Los Salvadores will also be bringing their unique sound to the stage, as well as Sheppey screamo band The Rodeo Plan, and Maidstone indie kids Directions.

Opening the night are No Room for Growth, a young and talented Sittingbourne ska band. They will be followed by Sheppey hard rock outfit Wires Faulty.

Don8tion is organised by Los Salvadores guitarist Marf Whiskin, and promoter Jade Wilson.

Both say this year will be the strongest event yet.

Marf said: “The line-up is the best we’ve ever had. Every band on there was picked because they put on a great show and have worked hard to build a following.

“And everyone – including Vic Wintergreen from DefZone who is doing the sound – has agreed to do it for free, so we can give more money than ever to Demelza.”

Jade said: “This is going to be an amazing gig, it’s such a strong line-up, and we’re expecting fans from all over Kent.

Last year’s gig raised nearly £500 for Demelza House, with more than 300 fans packed into the Wyvern Hall.

Don8tion will be held at the Wyvern Hall, Central Avenue, Sittingbourne, on Friday, August 8. Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are £4 and are available from any of the bands or on the door.
